My comment on the site, having read a lot of vitriol against him for having endorsed Obama and enabled the Plame case fiasco…
I’m giving Mr. Powell the benefit of the doubt. He’s been an admirable man of honorable intent for a long time and for me that counts for something. Sure, I think he made a mistake endorsing Obama, but at least now he’s beginning to see what the rest of us see and coming out and saying something. That’s a good thing, and I’m not going to impugn him. Mr. Powell, thanks for speaking up on this matter. It is urgent for our nation’s future that you continue to address it vigorously. Please continue!
Anyway, better late than never, I say. We should be encouraging him to continue, not attacking him for past failures, I think. We need all the support we can get on this, and he’s very credible with the Obama-Juice drinker set. At least temporarily until they perceive that he’s turned on The One and then, I suspect, he’ll see what a Real Feeding Frenzy looks like.

The only sad thing about the review is that the author could not bear to mention the fact that this was a crime perpetrated by ARAB men, but instead saw fit to blame men generally, as if all men would gladly have done this.
But no, that’s not true. In fact, this is the kind of crime that ARAB men like to commit because it’s evil, and they relish in evil. ARAB men, I’ll say it again, RELISH IN EVIL. And what proof have I of this? Please, oh God, let the gentle reader lift the veil of political correctness from their eyes for one terrifying moment and see that the Arab world is FILLED with exactly this kind of EVIL every day, and the news reports are full of the evidence of it. Year by year we see it over and over, and in increasing quanties. ARABs rioting over a cartoon, ARABs cutting off heads of people they don’t like, ARABs “honor killing” their daughters, ARABs, blowing up innocent people in the market, ARABS blowing away the World Trade Center, ARABs pouring acid on the faces of girls, ARABs framing their wives and having them stoned to death, ARABs threatening the destruction of Israel, America and the Western world.

Even as Democrats have promised that this cap-and-trade legislation won’t pinch wallets, behind the scenes they’ve acknowledged the energy price tsunami that is coming. During the brief few days in which the bill was debated in the House Energy Committee, Republicans offered three amendments: one to suspend the program if gas hit $5 a gallon; one to suspend the program if electricity prices rose 10% over 2009; and one to suspend the program if unemployment rates hit 15%. Democrats defeated all of them.
The reality is that cost estimates for climate legislation are as unreliable as the models predicting climate change. What comes out of the computer is a function of what politicians type in. A better indicator might be what other countries are already experiencing. Britain’s Taxpayer Alliance estimates the average family there is paying nearly $1,300 a year in green taxes for carbon-cutting programs in effect only a few years.
Americans should know that those Members who vote for this climate bill are voting for what is likely to be the biggest tax in American history. Even Democrats can’t repeal that reality.
Not to mention that whatever reductions in CO2 output due to reduced manufacturing are felt here in America (at the cost of our jobs, of course) will be made up for in China, India and Indonesia… thereby making the Bill neutral in real-world effect on CO2 emissions.
Not to mention that CO2 emissions may not be causing Global Warming.
Not to mention that we may not be experiencing Global Warming, as indicated by the fact that Democrats are no longer calling it “Global Warming Crisis”, but instead “Global Climate Change Crisis”. As if, globally, the climate never changed before, and that it is a crisis. What the democrats need is a huge, unprovable, global Crisis in order to justify the huge expenditures they have been planning, and so “Global Warming” was born by Al Gore.
Not to mention that what is going on is that the Democrats are really in the business of buying votes of the gullible poor. They think of themselves, perhaps, as the Robin Hood Party. Stealing from the Rich to help the poor sounds so romantic and good - except when you do it on a global scale and destroy the economy and make everyone in the world poor in the process. Well that’s more fair, isn’t it? We should, they believe, all be poor, so it’s fairerer.
Not to mention that the Cap and Trade system is going to enrich none other than Al Gore with his Carbon Credits business.
As NewsBusters reported here, here, and here, there are huge dollars to be made from global warming alarmism. However, conceivably no one is better positioned to financially benefit from this scam than Dr. Global Warming himself, former Vice President Al Gore, a fact that the media will surely not share with Americans any time soon.
Overall, this has the appearance of being the Greatest Scam in the history of the World … so far.

I can’t help but recall the Star Trek Original Series episode Patterns of Force of the Nazi-styled fascist government with it’s sham media broadcasts. Granted, there isn’t violence on the streets of America at the hand of the government, but one has to ask, why does Obama and his administration feel it’s necessary to not only manipulate the media, but exercise an ever increasing level of control over it? Are we really so far from Patterns of Force if the judiciary and the press - two supposed checks on the Executive branch of government are no longer checks but rubber stamps?
I understand that all administrations have sought to put their own spin on the media to favor themselves and their plans, but this is so overt. Perhaps this is all part of that promised “transparency” President Obama promised.

As for the video of the woman, it is the cries of her father, the desperation that is so chilling.

Hurrah for ABC! It’s about time that one of the networks got off the fence and decided to get down to some honest journalism! The time for unprecedented change is at hand, and the decisive movers and shakers at ABC have taken that change in hand.
Health Care is the most serious issue we have in America at this moment in our history. I passed an old woman woman down on St. Marks in the Village. She was hunched over a cart with only a small bag of prescription medicines. I stopped to ask her if she had any trouble with her prescriptions. Without looking up, and after a pause punctuated with a lone tear rolling down her age-worn cheek, she wheezed out in a vaguely Middle-Eastern accent, that it was either these pills, which would keep her alive, or bread.
And Fox News has the audacity to criticize ABC! And this after propping up the Bush Regime for eight years! This woman, like tens of millions of others are on death’s door, and Fox News has the nerve to whine about what viewpoints ABC will and will not air! This journalist for one sees right through the hypocrisy! I applaud ABC’s decision to get the message out that needs to be heard. There are times when we have to rise above the politics and act quick to meet the needs of the masses.
I understand that I will get flack from this from the readers of this blog, but I predict that soon NBC, and CBS will also go the way of ABC. Fox, sadly I believe, because of it’s stubborn refusal to see the light will 
eventually simply cease to exist.
As for the old woman, I put an Obama sticker on her cart which cheered her up considerably, and told her to make sure she watches “Prescription For America” on ABC. I’m proud to have done my part, getting the message out to one more victim of the policies of the last 8 years.

The bottom line is
In the first case dealing with the privacy of Internet bloggers, the judge ruled that Mr Horton had no “reasonable expectation” to anonymity because “blogging is essentially a public rather than a private activity”.
Therefore, because this is now the new precedent, we have been shown that blogging affords no “reasonable expectation” of anonymity, meaning: Watch what you say online! You may be prosecuted for it. Believe it.
What I’m imagining may never come to pass… but I’m afraid I can no longer rule out the possibility. Is this the first wave of BamBam’s massive Blitzkrieg on our civil liberties? Maybe they call it the World Wide Web for a reason… first lull us into thinking we have anonymity so we’ll feel safe in revealing our actual thoughts to the world - and then when the records are sufficiently full of incriminating evidence - announce that there is no “reasonable expectation” of anonymity after all… and now all the flies are trapped… and the World Wide Web has serviced Big Brother after all. What a setup.

Next Wednesday, ABC News will air a primetime health care reform “town hall” at the White House with President Barack Obama. In addition, according to an ABC News report, GOOD MORNING AMERICA, WORLD NEWS, NIGHTLINE and ABC’s web news “will all feature special programming on the president’s health care agenda.” This does not include the promotion, over the next 9 days, the president’s health care agenda will receive on ABC News programming.
Today, the Republican National Committee requested an opportunity to add our Party’s views to those of the President’s to ensure that all sides of the health care reform debate are presented. Our request was rejected. I believe that the President should have the ability to speak directly to the America people. However, I find it outrageous that ABC would prohibit our Party’s opposing thoughts and ideas from this national debate, which affects millions of ABC viewers.
In the absence of opposition, I am concerned this event will become a glorified infomercial to promote the Democrat agenda. If that is the case, this primetime infomercial should be paid for out of the DNC coffers. President Obama does not hold a monopoly on health care reform ideas or on free airtime. The situation is that BamBam bet the entire farm on the idea that the economy will recover, and that the investments made in various banks and corporations will in fact turn a profit for the government (and therefore, we assume, the tax payer). If it works out then the the $12 trillion in commitments over the next 12 years will pay off and America will profit from the “investment” in Bailouts.
On the other hand, if the economy stalls and we go into a 1970s stagflation environment then we’re going to be bankrupt. It’s a gamble. If it works, BamBam will be a “genius”, and perhaps rightly so. If it doesn’t, then he ruined the country.
Fiscally responsible people, we should note, when they run into debt, don’t usually go to Vegas and bet everything they have at the craps table in order to make enough money to pay for the luxury stuff they bought while going into debt. Usually.

Well here’s the suprise of the day: Bond-market rout lifts mortgage cost
The Federal Reserve announced a $1.2 trillion plan three months ago designed to push down mortgage rates and breathe life into the housing market.
But this and other big government spending programs are turning out to have the opposite effect. Rates for mortgages and U.S. Treasury debt are now marching higher as nervous bond investors fret about a resurgence of inflation.
That’s the Catch-22 threatening to make an awful housing market potentially worse and keep the economy stuck in a funk. Kick-starting the economy requires higher spending, but rising rates mean fewer Americans will be able to refinance their home loans. And some potential buyers will be shut out of the market by higher monthly payments they won’t be able to afford.
“The bond market is calling the Federal Reserve out,” said Mike Larson, a real estate analyst at Weiss Research Inc. in Jupiter, Fla. “Investors are saying that the Fed can’t just print money out of thin air to finance a massive deficit.”
All this means that even though mortgage rates are still low by historical standards, many of the trends that seem to be pointing to economic recovery in recent months could be undone fast.
Gee, funny that. I guess, despite the assurances to the contrary that Team BamBam has been giving us, it turns out their plan may be the exact opposite of what was actually needed to obtain their stated objectives. BUT THAT’S OK BECAUSE IT’S BAM BAM AT THE HELM! THEREFORE, it is GOOD. Remember that and do not (dare to) forget it! It is very very important that we all chant in unison: “This is all George Bush’s Fault!” Keep chanting. Keep chanting. Ok Good. Now chant “Bam Bam Can Do No Wrong!” Ok, now keep chanting that for a while. Good. You’re now properly conditioned to Think Correctly. If you find yourself questioning The One again, just keep repeating those two chants until any disquieting feelings go away. Very good.
Now the rest of us who didn’t get into the chanting thing… the question is: What to do? It seems that Bam Bam is eviscerating the economic foundations of the Free World. Why, exactly, He-Who-Bows-To-The-King-Of-The-Arabs would want to do that is a mystery that no one can figure out in the entire (Western) world, so we’ll have to live with the fact that it’s impossible to guess. So let’s leave that question aside. The question that faces us is “What do we do now?” … What is our Plan B?
That, my friends, is a tough question. Buy gold maybe? Hide in a cave until this all blows over? Flee to another distant land where all is goodness and light? Or do we grit our teeth, toughen up, and prepare ourselves for what is looking increasingly like the inevitable worst? I suspect it is the latter.

Highlights:
Analysts who have examined the quarterly profits and government tests say that accounting rule changes and rosy assumptions are making the institutions look healthier than they are.
Citigroup’s $1.6 billion in first-quarter profit would vanish if accounting were more stringent, says Martin Weiss of Weiss Research Inc. in Jupiter, Florida. “The big banks’ profits were totally bogus,” says Weiss, whose 38-year-old firm rates financial companies. “The new accounting rules, the stress tests: They’re all part of a major effort to put lipstick on a pig.”

The Federal Reserve, which designed the stress tests, used a 21 percent to 28 percent loss rate for subprime mortgages as a worst-case assumption. Already, almost 40 percent of such loans are 30 days or more overdue, according to Tavakoli, who is the author of three primers on structured debt. Defaults might reach 55 percent, she predicts.
Indeed, while the government and accounting rule makers try to help the banks look their best, they may make the U.S. economy worse. As long as lenders are stuck with bad loans, they can’t provide new money to consumers or corporations to fuel a potential recovery. The banks may look pretty, but they’ll be zombies until they clean up their books.

Democracy seen threatened by new authoritarianism
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - China, Iran, Russia and Venezuela form a clique of authoritarian states that use their wealth and influence to undermine global democracy and rule of law, a study by U.S.-funded agencies said on Thursday.
The report, released on the 20th anniversary of China’s suppression of the Tiananmen democracy movement, says these states’ challenge to Western democratic institutions represents a far “murkier picture” than the Cold War because they are integrated into the global economy and world bodies.
“Policymakers do not appear to appreciate the dangers these 21st century authoritarian models pose to democracy and rule of law around the world,” said the study by Freedom House, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, and Radio Free Asia, all prominent U.S. democracy-promotion bodies.
“Just as they rule without law within their borders, authoritarian regimes are eroding the international rules and standards built up by the democratic world over the past several decades, threatening to export the instability and abuses that their systems engender,” it said.
The study said manufacturing and trading power China and petro-states Iran, Russia and Venezuela shared strong similarities despite their distinct political systems and backgrounds.
Authoritarian capitalist China and Russia have built systems that twin “impressive economic development with an equally impressive apparatus of political control,” it said.

Chief Executive Officer Steven Ballmer said the world’s largest software company would move some employees offshore if Congress enacts President Barack Obama’s plans to impose higher taxes on U.S. companies’ foreign profits.
“It makes U.S. jobs more expensive,” Ballmer said in an interview. “We’re better off taking lots of people and moving them out of the U.S. as opposed to keeping them inside the U.S.”
And so… Microsoft is planning to react against the Obama Tax Plan by off-shoring it’s employees because it has a fiduciary responsibility to the much hated-by-Obama Shareholders. Well, buddy, that’s the law, and that’s their job. It’s why people invest in companies, so that they’ll make some money, not so that Obama can demand they change things around so that they don’t. So, in the end? Well, my guess is you’ll see people investing less in companies because if they do Obama is proving that nothing is going to stand in his way from stealing that money from the “Greedy Corporate Pigs” (even though most Shareholders are actually just ordinary middle class people with money invested through their retirement accounts, but don’t tell Obama that or you might make him angry).
But of course, you should understand that by speaking out against these Policies I’m really just a “jealous GOP (Pig)” according to the Left-Wing-Fascist Media Pundits like Chris Matthews.

In 1986, a year when “Atlas Shrugged” sold between 60,000 and 80,000 copies, the top 1 percent of earners paid 26 percent of the income tax. By 2000, that 1 percent was paying 37 percent, and “Atlas Shrugged” sales were at 120,000. By 2006, the top 1 percent carried 40 percent of the burden.
Yet President Barack Obama has made it clear he would like to see the rich pay a greater share. Anyone irked at that prospect can find consolation in Rand’s fantasy, in which the most valued professionals evaporate from the work place because of such demands.

This doesn’t bode well at all for the Entrepreneurial class… the one that invents stuff that keeps the economy flourishing. But I guess supporting innovation and prosperity for all must run contrary somehow to BamBam’s Big Plan. Just a guess.
